Last year your
bargaining team was able to increase the number of personal
necessity days from 3 to 10. In addition, the new Contract
considers what used to be personal business – “no tell” – days
as personal necessity. In other words, we now have 10 days
available per year to use for whatever purpose one sees fit to
use. Not quite. Although one can put in for these days without
informing the district of the purpose of these days, the use of
those days still falls within certain guidelines specified in
the Contract. The only legitimate use of personal necessity
days are as follows:
-
death of a family member beyond Bereavement Leave, currently
5 days
-
illness of a member’s immediate family
-
accident involving unit member’s or immediate family
member’s property
-
attendance at funeral services of a close friend
-
absence for taking final exams for advanced degrees
-
absence to seek alternative employment after receiving a
layoff notice
-
conditions or circumstances that would result in serious
financial hardship
-
other compelling personal reasons that a member cannot
ignore
-
other personal necessity allowed at the discretion of the
Superintendent or his/her designee
Please do not
use personal necessity leave for recreational reasons. Such use
is unauthorized.
